HOMELAND OF IRON / DOMOVINA ŽELEZA

The knowledge of ironworking emerges somewhere in the Anatolian-Iranian region during the period 1500–1000 BC.

This book shows the ancient metallurgical process based upon important documentary investigations supported by modern experiments.

The main mining and iron production area of the South West part of Slovenija in the 6th century BC was Bohinj, the beautiful valley in the heart of the Julian Alps.

It formed part of the St. Lucija culture - Hallstatt group.

HISTORICAL PERIODS / ZGODOVINSKA OBDOBJA

Etruscan, Veneti, Karni, Celts are known as pioneers in the ancient Noric area.

Up to the 19th century historians belived that Slovenians are descendants of an ancient people who left their traces in the names of hills, valleys and rivers.

They also left smelting evidence and other artefacts which have been discovered (the flowering Hallstatt of Carniola).

The Habsburg Counties Kranjska (Carniola), Koroška (Carinthia) and Štajerska (Styria) are Slovenian ethnic areas where Ferrum Noricum was produced.
